I can play games through the Oculus app without any issues after I updated my drivers, but SteamVR constantly crashes a few minutes after launching a game. Whenever I am in the SteamVR home or in a game my headset will beep at me and cut to black and SteamVR says that the headset was disconnected.
Games and SteamVR home will launch and I have no issues during the few minutes before crashing. Is anyone able to help me or is experiencing the same issue? The solution for me was to try a different extender and since I tried a new one I have had no problems. Support said that extenders are finicky if they work or not since a lot of information is being sent through one usb 3.

I'll be happy to help you get everything up and running. Please try disabling or removing these programs if you have any installed, then restart Steam and retest the issue.
Please let us know your results. Chomps View Profile View Posts. I got the same exact issue and Ive done everything and still cant seem to get it to work either.

Hey, I finally got it to work. After 2 replacements I was still having the issue.
I am using a usb 3. Support said extenders can be finicky and that some work for some people but sometimes the exact same extender might not work for others. I tried a different usb extender and it works just fine now. Universe View Profile View Posts. At first, the Oculus Rift S seemed to be a strange move from the company.
While Facebook has been spending oodles of cash on research and development for cutting-edge VR tech, the Rift S looks quite pedestrian on the surface.
When compared to the original Oculus Rift CV1it feels like more of a lateral move than an actual upgrade in most ways. The LCD display, lack of built-in headphones, non-removable headstrap, and no wireless option make it look almost pointless on the surface, but the experience provided is certainly better than the sum of its parts.
The key factor is in the ease of use. The "S" in the name "Oculus Rift S" seems a bit out of place at first. Typically used to denote a "super" version of a product, the Oculus Rift S is, instead, a wildly different headset than the original Oculus Rift CV1 that launched in But, despite being a completely different headset in every single possible way it is, ultimately, a better headset at the end of the day.
Perhaps the S stands for "super easy setup" because this is easily the most simple setup you'll find on any HMD on the market. The controllers are tracked entirely using the brand-new Oculus Insight inside-out tracking method, which means the 5 cameras located on the headset itself are all that's needed for proper roomscale tracking.
That's a huge departure from the overly complicated setup of the original Oculus Rift, especially if you wanted a proper roomscale experience.
Aside from the physical connections, the setup within the Oculus software is extremely easy too. Once the software is installed on your computer, everything else can be done from within the headset.
You'll set up the Guardian boundaries from within the Oculus Home screen by drawing a line around the perimeter of your room with your controller. Since you're in the headset, this feels completely natural, and the headset can even store several different room configurations at a time, too.
Since the visual map data of the room is stored locally on your machine and remembered for later use, you won't normally have to adjust or redraw these lines even through computer reboots or when unplugging the headset.
This feels like magic at first and is only broken when having to deal with SteamVR, where I found myself having to go through the initial room setup in SteamVR more times than I would have liked over the past 3 months.
I also had several issues with audio routing, the occasional lag, and several other regular problems while using SteamVR as well. I found these things to be common on the HTC Vive when it first launched but they were cleared up over time. Hopefully, that happens with the Oculus Rift S too. If you're just using the Oculus Home software, though, you're almost never going to have to do this more than once. In fact, this is probably the most console-like experience you'll get when it comes to PC VR, which is often overly complicated to set up and maintain.
The Oculus software will save a visual layout of your room and remember it, with the ability to remember several rooms at a time. While initial fears might have some wondering about how this data is stored, Facebook has shown that it's only accessible locally and is never uploaded to the cloud.
Controller tracking was also incredibly impressive, even when compared to SteamVR's millimeter-accurate lighthouse tracking technology. After the big tracking update in July, I had almost no issues with tracking in any type of game at all. In some games, like Audica, I would find that the tracking would momentarily be lost when crossing controllers or placing them one in front of the other; a necessary mechanic in a game that requires you to multitask two guns and shoot multiple targets to the beat of a song.
Even still, this tracking loss was only noticeable because there was a very slight glitch in the motion of the controller but never resulted in a loss of playability. Even games like Beat Saber or Apex Construct didn't flounder when putting my arms over my head or behind my back, as the tracking also utilizes the many gyros and sensors in the controllers to estimate the relative position. The shape and size of the Oculus Touch controllers is superior to that of the HTC Vive's wands in every way and even surpasses the Valve Index's in some ways, too.
The biggest advantage here is in games like Beat Saber, which requires quick movements and is far easier to play without the bulk or size of other controllers. It's simply a joy to use these controllers in these types of games for the most part, but more on the negatives later. When compared to the HTC Vive's trackpad and lack of buttons, I definitely prefer the Oculus Touch's traditional joysticks and buttons for input.Submit a ticket request.

Oculus Rift: Common problems and how to fix them
Rimae View Profile View Posts. Also using the Rift S. OK guys. I just got the black screen on my rift s about 3 minutes into target practice.Due period in 3 days time no discharge
I didn't launch it in oculus runtime though. Let me try that. I'll report back. If I do this, I need to set my super sampling in oculus tool tray though right, since steam vr won't even be running with its super sampling setting I have it on? Even after reboots, before launching steam even, couldn't get into oculus home either.
I ended up unplugging usb, and then the display port, and now back in oculus home again at least. This seemed to all be triggered by when I was in the pavlov game, but not sure. Anyway, trying with oculus tool tray now with all games set to 1. Last edited by doctori ; 26 May, pm. Wow it's def pavlov. This is how it works for me: Reboot. Launch Steam. Launch Steam VR manually. Once steam vr is up and running, Launch Pavlov by right clicking and play game.
Putting headphones in fixes the black screen issue for me, try it and see. It's due to the sound configuration apparently.

Submerged Posts: 5. June Sounds like the same issue as me, getting really frustrated. What is really annoying is that for me it works fine for 5 minutes or so then it's like somebody keeps turning the TV off and on over and over again. The Oculus home is fine as well it's just the games that are causing the blackouts.
Static flash and 2 second black screen, display comes beck for seconds, cut to black again Have repaired software, uninstalled in safe mode and reinstalled, purchased powered usb hub, turned off power saving settings, updated drivers, tried all different ports, unplugged everything from pc including monitor and usb devices, turned off all other software, reinstalled usb drivers, opted into test firmware, downsampled severely, turned it off and on again Totally ridiculous - finally got a response from my support ticket and they suggested trying the test firmware despite the fact I stated I had already tried that.
I did submit an error log that seems to be ignored for now. At this point I'm just fed up with the whole thing. Do you only get the issue when trying to play games? It definitely doesn't occur for me in Oculus home or watching videos. Oh I disabled sound entirely and tried headphones too! Nothing works! MJehle01 Posts: I get black screens as well. The Rift S works for maybe 5 minutes, then flickers and eventually goes black.
Happens in Oculus Home as well as in games. I've been trying everything now for the last two weeks. Now the Oculus support said they would send me a new cable. Sounds a bit like fishing in the dark to me. I'm just hoping the reason support can't help is that it is a firmware issue so there's nothing that can fix except an update. If it was hardware you'd think it would be blacking out constantly not just in games although Mjehle01 just said it gets him in home as well I might try another older Nvidia driver tonight although I have already tried a couple.
June edited June To dadzi10 and Submerged Taking a shot into dark here. Technically between oculus home and some game there shouldn't be much of a difference expect probably higher load on the computer processors and on PSU. Would you mind posting your computer specs - including the brand of the power supply unit and type of the casing your computer is in. I'll take a closer look later today. Some say that even turning down the volume helps. For some it has been the cable and for some something else.
For some nothing seems to help. Seems like rather odd problem so trying to figure out is there some common denominator similarity behind these "partially working" devices. It's definitely a weird one. The CV1 also works fine on this same setup so I'm extra perplexed.Submit a ticket request. Support forums.
